Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP)

CISP Overview
When your customers offer their bankcard at the point of sale, over the internet, on the phone or through the mail, they want assurance that their account information is safe. That is why VISA USA has instituted the Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP). CISP is intended to protect cardholder data, wherever it resides, ensuring that members, merchants, and service providers maintain the highest information security standard.

Over the past two years there has been an alarming increase in criminal activity targeted at merchants and bankcard data. Consumers are acutely aware of these data violations and the risks that potentially affect their own personal accounts. In an effort to decrease the risk of data compromises to cardholders, VISA is requiring all financial institutions to ensure that merchants are educated and compliant with the VISA Cardholder Information Security Program.
